James Bouzios

During almost 40 years within the accounting and taxation industry, James’ experience is as a financial practitioner is wide and diverse. James’ passion is providing quality advice in taxation, business development and financial planning to all types of clients from individuals, small, medium, and large business owners.

His broad knowledge is valuable to his clients, working closely and guiding them in their business and financial decision making, including tax planning, complex restructuring, detailed business advice, whilst assisting them to resolve their matters, managing and grow their businesses and overall wealth and financial well-being. James is passionate about working with business owners in a number of industry sectors, including construction, transport, restaurants and cafes, professional advisors in real estate, medical and legal services.

James is always seeking to do more to service his happy existing client base, and attract new clients. His model of a holistic, goals-based approach leverages technology to make his clients’ experiences more streamlined and adviser-friendly, allowing him to spend more quality time on clients moving forward, really understand their problems and goals, and provide tailored solutions.

In addition to the above, James is a member of the Institute of Public Accountants, the Financial Planning Association of Australia, and Tax & Super Australia.

In his free time, James enjoys playing and following sports of all types, including golf, tennis, soccer, cricket and particularly Rugby League and his beloved St George Illawarra Dragons, as you would notice when you venture through his office with all the Dragons and other memorabilia.

My Story

James was born in Sydney, Australia, the child of Greek-origin immigrants, and raised in the suburb of Marrickville, in the Inner West of Sydney, NSW. After completing an Accounting Certificate in 1983, James commenced full-time employment as a tax agent and an accountant in 1984. In 1989, James was registered as a tax agent. He achieved his lifelong dream of establishing his own accounting and tax agent practice, now known as James Bouzios & Associates (JBA), in the same year. In 1991, the accounting arm of the business was relocated “back to his grassroots” in the commercial premises at 344a Illawarra Road, Marrickville.

After establishing the accounting practice, James identified that his clients needed more than personalised taxation, accounting, and business advice. Consequently, he sought to create a holistic approach to their overall financial and lifestyle needs and goals. To enable him to provide a complete suite of accounting and financial services, he completed a Diploma of Financial Planning. James then established his financial planning business, Retirewise. James was a practising financial adviser from 2012 until December 2025. While James no longer provides financial advice, he continues to play an active leadership and strategic role within the business, drawing on his extensive experience in accounting, taxation, and practice management. James also established his bookkeeping business, JBA Books, and the advisory business, JBA Advisory, which incorporates CFO Services.
